The team at Callooh Callay will open 'cocktail pub' The March Hare in Chelsea to the public today.

Taking the place of Callooh Callay Chelsea, which closed last month, owner Richard Wynne has described the new venue as a “reimagining of the British pub” with a “surreal edge”.

It takes its name - as its sister venue - from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Yesterday’s soft launch featured drinks and canapés showcasing the menu, including The March Hare’s signature pairing: Champagne with fish and chips. Other dishes include lamb ribs with Scotch bonnet honey and cucumber yoghurt, and a King’s Road prawn cocktail.

Among the cocktails is the Black Sesame Brandy Alexander (pictured), made with black sesame, banana, brandy, and cream.

Callooh Callay Shoreditch, opened in 2008 and went on to register a slew of appearances in The World’s 50 Best Bars.

The March Hare is located at 316–318 King’s Road, London SW3 5UH.
