Callooh Callay has announced it will be closing its Chelsea bar in early March, five years after opening its doors on the King’s Road. A new concept is set to open on the same site in spring 2026.
Originally opened as a pop-up in October 2019, the opening became permanent during the Covid pandemic.
Founder Richard Wynne has stated that the closure reflects part of a strategic evolution of the business with a venue, under a new name and concept, set to open on the site over the coming months.
“Chelsea has changed,” said Wynne. “The market has shifted. And as operators, we have to evolve with it. This isn’t an emotional reaction — it’s a strategic decision. Once we began developing the new concept, it became a no-brainer.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we built here. We brought east London attitude to west London at a time when it felt risky to do so. Our guests will remember the humour, the chaos, the tequila, and hopefully the way we made them feel.
“We’re listening to Chelsea. We want to embrace everything this neighbourhood offers. The next chapter is sharper, more considered, and completely aligned with where both we and the area are heading.”
Callooh Callay Chelsea will host a closing celebration, sponsored by Goya Tequila, on Sunday 8 March to coincide with International Women’s Day.
