Birmingham’s Passing Fancies has begun work on its new Jewellery Quarter bar after closing its Digbeth site this summer.

Having faced months of delays, owners Matt Arnold and Eve Green have announced that building work is now underway, with the new site planned to open in February.

The new Passing Fancies will span two levels, with its name now split across the two spaces.

Passing is a space designed for “comfort and connection”, with warm lighting, a considerable food menu, and drinks that feel “effortless but never ordinary”.

Fancies, meanwhile, is the bar’s creative space, where “things get interesting”. Drinks will be more experimental in nature, taking inspiration from outside influences such as local artists.

Tucked away behind it all is The Lab, a quiet corner for experimentation and tasting, stacked with the latest bar-industry technology.

Green and Arnold said: “This new space isn’t about reinvention; it’s about evolution. It’s still us — just sharper, braver, and built to last. We’ve poured everything we have into making it a place Birmingham can be proud of.

“We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you for the first round.”

The owners have also set up a Crowdfunder page to raise £15,000 and help get the doors open.
