Of all the hundreds of spirits and liqueurs that entered the BBAs this year, the exalted honour of Supreme Champion Spirit went to Worthy Park’s Overproof rum.

The high proof, unaged rum was the best-tasting spirit in the entire BBAs, and its exceptional score of 89/100 is perhaps made more impressive by the fact it’s the only product in the top five not to score golds across the three judging categories.

Just one point off the champ was Ferrand Cognac Selection des Anges with a bartending classic, Dry Curaçao from Ferrand’s liqueur arm completing the podium.

In fourth, Belvedere vodka continues to impress across the board on looks, taste and for its value for money and with Planteray Cut & Dry in fifth, Maison Ferrand has three products spanning three distinct categories in this top five. It seems whatever the French brand owner puts its hand to, it makes a pretty good go of.

Elsewhere in the top 10, three more rums: Eminente Ambar Clara and two additional Planteray bottlings. Another orange liqueur in Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge, which was the competition’s second-highest alcoholic performer in the blind tasting. And another Ferrand Cognac, its 10 Générations, completed the top 10.
