Manchester's big opening this summer was Blinker's sequel The Morris. Dave Marsland was there soon after opening.

After putting Blinker on the Manchester map, Dan Berger has extended his creativity to the city’s Northern Quarter, opening two concepts in one building.

The ground floor of 57 Thomas St sees oak panel walls, red leather seating and vintage wall furnishings that come together in a classic old pub vibe. The visuals may be old boozer but the booze is anything but, with a showcase of the city’s craft beer scene, plus a good selection of Spritzes and whisky.

Upstairs is like you’ve entered the hazy days of the ‘80s Northern Quarter. The décor is funky retro, with red lighting, soft wood furnishing and a clean bar top that harks back to a simpler time of cocktails, as seen by the names of the serves – Rhubarb & Custard, Bakewell, Cheeky Vimto and Drumstick.

The Celebration serve sees Buffalo Trace, Mars Bar, coconut, cacao nib and Angostura, complete with a Celebration sweet. With great drinks and service on both floors, it’s easy to fl it between the two venues and never be bored.

SCORE: 9/10
