Adam Handling's Ugly Butterfly restaurant and bar in Saint Ives will close later this month, the chef and owner has announced.

In its four years, the Cornish restaurant bar - which led on locally sourced ingredients - won a string of awards, including the CLASS Bar Awards' Sustainable Practices Award in 2023, under the leadership of Josh Linfitt.

Latterly led by Kris Mclaren, the bar was a finalist in the category at the 2025 CLASS Bar Awards.

Handling announced on his Instagram: "No words but only opportunity and excitement. This might be the end of this chapter but the story of Ugly Butterfly 2.0 is just beginning.

"Our landlord has enacted the break clause after an amazing chapter and I couldn’t be prouder of everything the team have achieved. I have nothing but positivity here because when one door closes, another one opens. And, for us, the story is just beginning.

"A massive thank you to everyone who has visited us over the past four years. Your support has meant the world to myself and the team and we can’t wait to bring you with us on the next part of our journey. Our mission here isn’t complete yet, so stay tuned."
