Ego Death has been forced into closure, with its last service coming this Sunday, six months after it opened in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Co-owner and figurehead Cressida Lawlor told CLASS that the closure "was not the team's choice" and that she was informed on Friday by backers Beau Myers, Luke Edge and Marie Carter that the bar would have to close.
Just two days previous, Ego Death was a finalist in the New Bar of the Year category at the CLASS Bar Awards.
Lawlor now plans to find a new site and investors in Manchester for the bar, while making sure her team - Elliot miller, Bayley Davidson, Steven Vaughn and Alex Goacher - finds employment.
She told CLASS: “The team here is wildly talented so the goal now is to get them into jobs so they can pay their bills and keep a roof over their heads.
“No one wants Ego Death to die and I think we’ve made enough of a stir in the six months that we’ve been open to find a new site and investment.
“Our last day is going to be Sunday, so anyone who can get here for one final party should come down.”
