Scotland bar reviewer Natasha Corfield has been waiting for this opening - Dogstar in Edinburgh's Leith.

Nestled in a part of Leith that’s long felt overlooked, Dogstar brings energy, serious talent and a clear sense of purpose.

It was more than worth the wait. A partnership between Kyle Jamieson and Michael Lynch (co-owners of Leith favourite Nauticus) and chef James Murray, who led Timberyard to a Michelin star, expect elevated cocktails, refined Scottish scran, a warm atmosphere and that same heart and neighbourhood spirit that makes Nauticus so loved.

Step inside and the contemporary space feels intimate and immediately inviting. I take a seat at the bar counter and the Friday night buzz is in full swing.

The menu is brimming with signature cocktails and reimagined classics. I start strong with an Oyster Leaf Martini, perfectly paired with Shetland mussels in smoked cider butter.

In the mood for something a little sweeter, I move on to the Forest Spritz. This is a showstopper, packed with every ingredient identifiable, from forest fruits tea to amaro.

The Red Pepper Paloma is easily the best twist on a Paloma I’ve ever had, and even more enjoyable alongside the beef tartare – outstanding.

With warm, attentive hospitality, food rooted in local flavours and impeccably crafted drinks, this spot feels destined to become an Edinburgh staple.
