Ryan Chetiyawardana - aka Mr Lyan - has launched a range of cocktail seasonings called Three Families.
A partnership of three Sri Lankan families with a history in drinks, the new five-flavour range will bring “the taste of the Sri Lankan tropics to the UK, Singapore and Australia.”
Billed as ‘cocktail seasonings’, the range aims to bring new complexity to classical serves such as the Gin & Tonic, the Old Fashioned and Margarita.
Each of the products are a combination of multiple ingredients but capture three dominant flavours.
Ceylon Sour is a blend of calamansi, tamarind and coriander seed and can be used instead of a squeeze of lime in cocktails, while Verdant Sinhaya sees preserved mandarin, wildflower honey and lemongrass and can be used in a Martini.
The tropical Pettah Market, with rambutan, jasmine and arrack is designed to enhance everything from Old Fashioneds to Gin & Tonics while dashes of Sunset Pekoe - pekoe tea, turmeric and toasted oak – is suggested for use in all manner of drinks, including sours.
Amethyst Punch, with green tea, mangosteen and peppercorn, meanwhile, brings the flavours of punch in seasoning form.
The range is a collaboration between Amal de Silva Wijeyeratne of Rockland Distilleries, Dilhan Fernando of Dilmah - owner of Ceylon tea - and Ryan Chetiyawardana of Mr Lyan and is now available to the trade.
