In celebration of Daiquiri Day on Friday 19th July, Ron Santiago de Cuba has launched its fourth annual Casa del Daiquiri edit, partnering with a selection of some of the world’s leading bars and bartenders to bring their twists on the Daiquiri into the hands of rum and cocktail enthusiasts from around the world.
Casa del Daiquiri by Ron Santiago de Cuba is an international collective of world-leading bartenders from bars such as Wax On (Berlin), 1862 Dry Bar (Madrid), Savage (Prague), Dry Milano, The Guild (Dubai), Yarini Habana and Sexy Fish (London), who have been selected to create their own modern twist on the original Daiquiri recipe. Each bar will offer their guests the ultimate Daiquiri experience with every creation being available in the run up to Daiquiri Day in July.
This year, Ron Santiago de Cuba invited all participating bars to London for a Casa del Daiquiri Experience from 10th-12th June, devised to create a Ron Santiago de Cuba community among global Casa del Daiquiri bartenders. Bartenders from some of the best bars in the world visited London, where Ron Santiago de Cuba showcased the brand and London’s renowned hospitality and cocktail culture. The experience included a Ron Santiago de Cuba Brand Immersion Session, Rum Workshop at Laki Kane, Bar Safari at The Connaught, Kwãnt Mayfair and Amazonico, Street Art Tour and Workshop in East London and a closing party at The House of KOKO in Camden.
Ron Santiago de Cuba Daiquiri Week takes place from 12th – 21st July this year and is growing in popularity; globally, over 16,700 Daiquiris were sampled during Daiquiri Week in 2023, the first year the celebration was activated around the world. In the UK, consumers enjoyed over 7,100 Ron Santiago de Cuba Daiquiris, during Daiquiri Week 2023.
This reflects the continuing growth in the category, with rum predicted to sell 173 million nine-litre cases in 2024, up from 2022’s figure of 158m . More specifically, in the UK, rum has surpassed the £1 billion in sales mark, with a 14% share of the overall spirits category . This growth is largely driven by the premium and above sector with consumers seeking brands which are rich in authenticity and provenance such as Ron Santiago de Cuba™ and, as such, they have created a whole Daiquiri Week for this beloved, classic cocktail to be enjoyed.
Ron Santiago de Cuba is traditionally recognised as the highest expression of Cuban rum making tradition from the South-East of the island so, it is not only the perfect choice for a balanced Daiquiri, but it also shares geographical history with its place of birth, in Daiquiri itself.
A commonly accepted version of how the first Daiquiri evolved is attributed to the general manager of the Daiquiri iron mine in the nineteenth century. His granddaughter claims that he ran out of gin when some guests came to visit him, so he improvised with rum, lime juice and sugar. The drink was such a hit that it was decided it must be given a name. Therefore, in dedication to his mine and the village, he supposedly named it The Daiquiri, or so the tale says
Regardless of its origin, it is undisputed that the Daiquiri is a timeless classic, which has transformed over time to become one of the world’s most beloved cocktails – and currently the number one, best-selling rum cocktail in the world’s top bars.
