Simon Thompson's Present Company in Liverpool has closed permanently closed.

The bar was co-founded by Thompson in 2019 (and Jake O'Brien Murphy, who subsequently moved on).

Thompson said: "Last year I sat down and started to plan what 2025 looked like for Present Company and put my finger on something that I'd been feeling for a long time. My love for it was gone. Running late night cocktail bars for over 15 years meant that I wasn't as excited by it as I once was.

"Present Company was never a place where the offering could be 'phoned in', and, as the guy steering the ship, If I had lost the excitement then there's no way I was going to be able to excite a team and the guests that walked in the door.

"So after much soul searching, I've decided to do something different."

Thompson, who "owns the lease" on the School Lane site, now plans to change Present Company into a new venue.

He added: "I was looking for ages to launch a space to launch a new idea I had been working on that I'm super passionate about and it dawned on me that the answer was under my nose the whole time."

More details on Thompson's new venture will follow on Classbarmag.com next week.
