Clinton Cawood takes a short train ride outside of London to St Albans, the home of Happiness Forgets' new sister bar.

There’s more than a passing resemblance between Happiness Forgets in London’s Hoxton Square and its new sibling, No Nuisance in St Albans, if not in appearance, then certainly in terms of feel.

Sure, it’s above ground rather than in a basement, and even has some outdoor seating, but there’s the same pared-back approach and a familiar, comfortable vibe.

No Nuisance has been opened by Alastair Burgess without any investors or partners, and you’ll likely fi nd him, Wednesday to Saturday when the bar’s open, slinging drinks himself.

The compact list is approachable and unpretentious – there’s the Spicy Margs, for example, joined by a few Happiness classics, as well as off-menu Martinis poured straight from the freezer, and a couple of non-alc options too.

What you won’t fi nd is any mention of a spirits brand, and no highfalutin techniques or ingredients either, beyond a little citric acid, perhaps. No Nuisance, and no nonsense either.
