Altar, a cocktail bar, music venue and record shop, is to open in East London’s Leytonstone neighbourhood later this month.

Billed as an adaptable space with an approachable food and drink programme, the site also includes a subterranean live music venue.

The drinks menu is expertly curated by local bar Chop Shop Tavern and includes the Caprese Gimlet (gin, tomato, basil and black pepper), the Yuzu Americano (Campari, Italo Disco, yuzu and grapefruit), the Chunks Sgroppino (liqueur blend, Prosecco, lemon gelato) and the Olive Martini, (vodka, manzanilla, Dolin Dry, olive oil and brine).

Altar's décor is mid-century with a high-gloss tiled bar accented with low-lit rust-orange lighting, curved wood-panelled banquettes, velvet upholstery and chrome fixtures.

Bar snacks at Altar centre around elevated hotdogs, including the Banh Mi hotdog dressed with pâté, kachumber, chilli-pickled carrot and crispy onion, and a Currywurst topped with mango chutney, raita, kachumber and crushed poppadom.

Tucked into a narrow nook off the bar is one of London’s smallest record shops, stocking a curated selection of new and used vinyl and merch for guests to browse and buy.

Downstairs is Altar’s 100-capacity music space designed to host everything from live gigs and club nights to film screenings and art events, built around a state-of-the-art sound system.

The drinks offered downstairs follow the same approachable theme with a selection of beers, wines and cocktails on draft.

Altar opens October 23 on 7 Church Lane in Leytonstone.
