Tayēr + Elementary founders Monica Berg and Alex Kratena have announced the opening of Casual in the basement of London’s Cato for a six-week residency.
Launching on Wednesday 15 July the new space is designed to bring together the vibrancy of a classic neighbourhood bar with the creativity of Tayēr + Elementary, which remains closed following a fire in the parental building in May.
The pop‑up will use a curated menu of cocktails that merge the style of Tayēr with the technique and precision of Elementary, alongside the brand’s classics such as the One Sip Martini.
Head chef Steven Diaz has also curated an elevated menu blending his signature style of Latin and Asian influences and nostalgic drinking comfort food.
“Casual by Tayēr is our way of staying connected to the people who have supported us, even as we navigate an unexpected moment of change,” said Berg. “This residency gives us the freedom to be playful, responsive, and a little spontaneous to create something that feels fresh while still rooted in the values that define Tayēr + Elementary.
“Summer in London is all about embracing the moment, and Casual by Tayēr is exactly that: a chance to come together, enjoy great drinks, and celebrate the community that makes our work meaningful.”
The concept forms part of a wider series called ‘What if?’, which aims to explore different themes through the lens of the Tayēr brand.
Angelos Bafas, co-founder at Cato, added: ” Casual by Tayēr is a fantastic fit for our basement bar, and we’re looking forward to welcoming both loyal Tayēr guests and new visitors to experience this unique residency in the heart of Covent Garden.
“They (Berg and Kratena) are among the most respected names in the global cocktail community, and it’s a privilege to host the first edition of their new ‘What If?’ series.”
Casual will run from Wednesday 15 July-Wednesday 26 August and be open Wednesday-Saturday from 6pm-1am.
Both Berg and Kratena currently rank in the top 10 of Bar World 100 while Berg topped the list five years in a row between 2020-24.
