The humble beginnings of the festival were about proving that rum hadn't died in Manchester! London received a lot of the time and energy of the rum brands looking to make a splash towards consumers and although understandably so to gain a reaction in the capital, I knew that Manchester had the taste for experiencing - especially with the rise of gin festivals across the city back in 2017. With experience of running NRB, I knew what needed to be done to pull together a festival with no financial backing, but also what was expected from not only the brands to make the trip north viable, but the consumers who would attend. Partnering with Revolución de Cuba for the first year not only meant I had a good starter for an audience, but it gave the brands a venue that was instantly recognisable. One sold out show and waiting list for exhibitors later and we're off to the races!

Saturday 4th July, 12-6pm and held once again at New Century Hall near Victoria Station.

There's some great rums making their debut this year, including Angostura, Merser and House of Rum who are joined by some festival stalwarts such as Pusser's, Gosling's, Chairman's Reserve, Planteray and Hampden Estate. I'm also very much looking forward to this years Rum Ramble seminars, including hosting the CEO of Sydney Rum Distillery Steve Magarry, Paul McFadyen of Planteray talking the history of navy rum, and Marcos “Rum Interest” Pilavakis and Robert "Robban" Sandqvist bringing their European rum festival tour to Manchester with their showcase "Rum Without Borders". Plus we can't forget about the TWO special rum barrels chosen to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the festival and available to pick up on the day courtesy of Planteray!

There is! It's going to be hosted at The Morris in the Northern Quarter and is open from 5pm across both floors of the venue. The special menu, supported by Saint James, Cargo Cult, Tilambic and Sitara, will be available to anyone with a wristband that they receive upon attending the main festival. There will also be some special bottles from my own collection available to enjoy too!

After the success of the inaugral week last year, the rum week is back from 29th June to 5th July and is designed to highlight the rum category across a variety of mediums in the city. We've Guinness Punch cocktails courtesy of STERLING, twists on classic serves at Posie, five rum flights to choose from at Turtle Bay and a Martinique rhum showcase at Exhibition with Clément and J.M. There's no writstband to get involved, just some great rum highlights to enjoy across the city - from dive bars such as Dogtown, Michelin Guide listed venues like 10 Tib Lane and cocktail award-winners with Stray.

I'm excited to host the gents from the Real Rum Experience who are heading to Manchester for the first time to host a Friday evening warm-up rum party, featuring 6 rums, a mystery blind tasting challenge as well as live polls, quizzes and prizes!
